Family Matters

POST CONSULTATION SERVICES/FEE

 

a. Private Clients: 

 

If after the initial consultation we are required to act further on behalf of the client, our Solicitor’s hourly rate fee is: – £180-£250 exclusive of VAT and disbursements. The specific fee will depend on the Solicitor's year of call/grade. In addition, we charge 10% of our hourly fee rate for letters, telephones, correspondences in/out.  Further information will be found in our Retainer letter to client or on client’s enquiry.

b. Legal Aid qualified Clients:

 

If the matter progresses to court, we may need to apply for a Legal Aid certificate or Representation Order. The Client will be required to provide us with recent documents in regard to their finances and circumstance as required by the Legal Aid Agency.  A further means and merit assessment would be carried out by the Legal Aid Agency to be able to determine their application at this stage. If the application is successful, we will continue to act for the client within the cost and scope limitation allowed by the legal aid agency. In most cases, the Legal Aid pays for disbursements in addition to our legal fees. Further information will be found in our Retainer letter to client or on client’s enquiry.

TYPES OF MATTERS:

​Children – private

  • Timescale from 3 months from the date of issue – 3 years or more depending on the circumstance and the litigation involved. Cost estimate from £1000 - £15,000 or more from the time of instruction to the completion of the matter, depending on the nature of individual matters.​​

  • Disbursements:

    • court fee from £175 - £215 (exclusive of VAT), depending on the matter.

    • Counsel fee from £550 - £3500 or more at each hearing (exclusive of VAT) depending on years of experience and complexity of the matter.

    • Medical experts from £2500 - £4000 or more (exclusive of VAT) depending on the area of expertise and other factors.

    • Other experts (intermediaries, interpreters, translation of documents, etc) from £250 - £1500 (exclusive of VAT), depending on the area required.

    • Medical assessments/reports from £50 - £2000 or more (exclusive of VAT) depending on the nature of the report.

    • Process server from £180 - £500 or more (exclusive of VAT) depending on the process server/distance, etc.

    • Other incidental expenses – this varies depending on individual case and the issues involved.

Children – public law: legal aid may be available for free or subject to means and merits assessment. Individual cases will be assessed based on its circumstance. Even where qualified for legal aid, client may be asked to contribute towards the costs of the matter.

  • Timescale: up to 12 months or more depending on the nature of proceedings

  • Disbursements – depending on the nature of proceedings. But if qualified for legal aid, the disbursements will be met from the client’s legal aid funding certificate.

Divorce – private: timescale up to 16 weeks or more, depending on the court’s workload and the parties’ engagements with the process.

Uncontested: Solicitor’s fixed fee £1800 (excluding VAT)

  • Court fee - £550 inclusive of VAT

  • Disbursements:

    • Process server, further court fee, etc (translators) – from £80 - £1000 or more (exclusive of VAT) depending on the matter.

    • Other incidental expenses – this varies.

Divorce contested – timescale can be up to 12 months or more

  • solicitor’s hourly rate between £180 - £250 (exclusive of VAT) per hour, depending on the grade of the solicitor.

  • Court fee - £550 inclusive of VAT

  • Counsel fees (if required) from £1200 - £2500 or more (exclusive of VAT) depending on the nature of litigation

  • Other disbursements are not foreseeably known, it depends on individual case circumstance. This will be clarified with the client as soon as it becomes apparent.

Financial remedy – private - Time estimate – up to 12 months or more depending on the nature of issues involved

  • Disbursements:

    • Application fee - £255 inclusive of VAT

    • Valuers/Surveyor’s fee from £100 - £1500 or more (excluding VAT), depending on how many properties involved.

    • Accountant fees from £700 - £3000 or more (exclusive of VAT), depending on information required.

    • Estate agent’s fees – 2% - 3% of the value of the property

    • Counsel fees from £750 - £10,000 or more (exclusive of VAT) depending on the nature of the individual case

    • Other disbursements to be identified as and when it becomes apparent.

    • Solicitor’s costs estimate from £5000 - £25,000 or more (excluding VAT), depending on the complexity of the matter

Other family – private: costs/timescale/disbursements depends on the instruction. This could be a one-off advice and assistance and letter or instruction that can be negotiated and agreed urgently. It varies and can only be assessed on individual case basis once instruction is received.
